Composed of small groups of Senators, committees are responsible for detailed examinations of critical matters, information collection, and public hearings facilitation. Such focused tasks are often more efficiently executed by these specialised groups rather than the Senate as a whole.

I have recognised that committee work demands significant time, often more than attending sittings of the Senate itself. As we examine proposed laws, review government expenditures, and listen to the voices of the Australian people, we can shape our nation's trajectory in a manner that truly reflects the public's aspirations.

With over 60 parliamentary committees, each has its distinct purpose and mode of operation. Some committees are primarily concerned with investigating national issues, scrutinising legislation, or overseeing government expenditure. In contrast, others focus on domestic affairs, legislative scrutiny, or specific special references.

Public participation in our democracy doesn't need to be confined to the ballot box. Senate committees provide a unique opportunity for every Australian to be heard. Whether through public submissions or direct testimony, citizens can express their views on matters of national significance, contribute to public policy, and ensure the government is held accountable.

I invite you to explore this website to learn more about our work. I look forward to your active engagement as we build a better Australia together.
